How I Become an SEO Freelancer...
Hello there! I am John Ariel Lalap, an SEO Virtual Assistant living in the Philippines. I graduated from the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) in 2021 when the pandemic happened. That is also when I decided to become a virtual assistant since having an online job is the best choice to have an income.
Transitioning to a new industry is challenging since I don’t yet know what freelance work looks like. Therefore, I decided to look first for free virtual assistant seminars to have an overview of how to become one.
There are a lot of niches that you can learn as a freelancer, but SEO is what I think is best for me since it also includes a lot of writing by doing so and that is where I had experience as a student. With that, this year I started to become more serious about SEO wherein I attended an SEO BootCamp to hone my skills and help my clients at my best.

I want a future where I can be considered an expert in this field and help a lot of business owners, whether it is big or small, in achieving their goals in the digital marketing industry.

MISSION
My mission is to provide my clients with the best results and a good experience while working with me. To do that, I aim to keep learning and update my SEO processes to make sure that they will become successful in this industry.
My Experiences
Data Entry (November 2021-August 2024)
Upon transitioning as a freelancer, data entry is my first job. I worked for a private company in the sports industry. This is like a part-time job since I only work 4-6 hours.
These are the usual tasks that I do:
- Collecting data from the past until the present and
organizing them in an Excel file. - Inputting data to the company websites.
- Researching data using the resources that the company
provided.
SEO Freelance Writer (May 2022-January 2023)
Back then I work around 4-5 hours as a freelance writer. It is like a ghostwriter since I don’t get the credits when publishing the blog posts I created.
The topics that I created are related to cryptocurrency, insurance, and mortgage. Moreover, they provided me with an account for Jasper, an AI writing tool, to assist me in finishing the articles a little faster.
Following are the tasks that I usually do daily:
- Create 2 articles per day and post them on their WordPress websites.
- Research the topics given to produce
good quality articles. - Report to the boss whenever I finish the task
