What is Data Benchmarking?
Data benchmarking is the process in SEO in which I gather data to determine the current performance of the website. This includes the overview on which medium does the website get the most engagement from least to most. In addition to that, this also gives a look on the keywords that the website gets clicks on, impressions, and current position. Moreover, this determines the health and status of your website.
I use 2 SEO tools to do this process: Google Search Console for the website’s status and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for traffic monitoring. Below are sample reports that can be seen by using these tools:

Benefits of Doing Data Benchmarking in SEO
Data benchmarking is an important process in SEO if you want to stay ahead of your competitors. Data can tell you a lot about what is currently happening on your website, giving you an insight into what you can do to your business. So, what exactly are the advantages of this process?
1. Assess Development Over Time
By having data can help you have an overview if the process you are currently doing is still effective. Therefore, with this process, you will know if you need to have an adjustment to your strategy if the current is not giving you a good result.
2. Determine Traffic Acquisition
In doing this process, you will also have an insight to the different medium where you get engagement for your website. With that in mind, you can also add to the strategy by focusing also on those platforms by continuously providing good content to it.
3. Recognize Keyword Gaps
With the use of Google Search Console, you can determine the top queries that your website get from. Knowing the data with those keywords will help you determine on where you should need to focus on.
